Some of you may have joined because you wanted to. Some of you may have joined because one of us made you. And some of you may not have the faintest who Mods and Rockers are. So here's some schoolin' for ya'll. Gracias to Wikipedia.
The Mods and Rockers were two conflicting British youth subcultures of the early-mid 1960s. Gangs of mods and rockers fighting in 1964 sparked a moral panic about British youths, and the two groups were seen as folk devils. The rockers adopted a macho biker gang image, wearing clothes such as black leather jackets. The mods adopted a pose of scooter-driving sophistication, wearing suits and other cleancut outfits. By late 1966, the two subcultures had faded from public view and media attention turned to two new emerging youth subcultures — the hippies and the skinheads.
If you have ever read The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, you could probably compare Greasers and Socs to Mods and Rockers, except both groups were easily disliked (unlike Socs, who while being more violent than greasers, were generally looked upon fondly by the public). Both of them drank and smoked heavily, and Mods often took psychedelic drugs such as speed and the like.
I think that's about it.
